Issey Miyake is a Japanese fashion designer known for his innovative approach to fabric and production technology that results into interesting and practical garments. After studying graphic design at Tama Art University in Tokyo, and working for leading companies, including Guy Laroche, Givenchy and Geoffrey Beene, he decides to return to Tokyo. In 1970 he starts his own company – Miyake Design Studio, and begins producing women's fashion.
Miyake manages to bring innovation in the use of fabrics, and garment pleating. Other groundbreaking successes include the A-POC (a piece of clothing) line and the Cauliflower Issey Miyake line (which included one-size-fits-all shirts that stretch to fit the wearer). Miyake's astonishing creativity can be seen in the branding of his fashion products and perfumes, which reflects a striking sense of humor. A-POC, L'eau d'Issey, and A Scent by Issey Miyake are all homonyms of different English and French words and collocations.
